Jewellery Historian | Researcher | Writer

Welcome!

I'm Dr Sarah McAleer

I'm an internationally recognised goldsmith, jewellery historian and educator.

With a PhD from the Royal College of Art in London, I am the leading expert in ‘Children’s Jewellery History’ - a new field of study I pioneered in the mid 1990’s!

My historical investigations have uncovered the hidden stories of ‘Children’s Jewellery' - from prehistoric times to the present day - and I bring these forgotten ‘Little Gems’ into the spotlight through research, writing and teaching.

Current Research Projects...

Books & Writing

I’m currently conducting research for several NEW BOOK titles - including the re-publication of my original PhD Thesis, alongside the subjects of Amuletic Children's Jewellery, Prehistoric Children’s Jewellery and Children's Jewellery In Portraits Throughout The Ages.

Children's Jewellery Archive

I’m currently developing a NEW ARCHIVE - which is the FIRST online resource dedicated to documenting children’s jewellery across centuries and cultures. This is an evolving database housing historical children’s jewellery examples from around the world.

300 Little Gems

300 Little Gems is a visual journey that charts the development of Children’s Jewellery throughout the ages as told through the medium of 300 Postcards.

I am developing a 'Research Hub' to catalogue examples of 'children's jewellery' and stories about children's jewellery from around the world.

With the earliest example currently dating back 74,000 years ago, this project charts the development of jewellery associated with children since the dawn of time!

The 'Children's Jewellery Historical Archive' is the ONLY platform dedicated to the historical research of children’s jewellery.
